| From 1885 till today : The Dubois family first became involved in wine-making in 1885. A century later Richard Dubois, and his wife Danielle, both oenologists, took over the family business. At that time, the vineyard was already in excellent condition and was producing fine wine due to the love and care with which Richard's parents had managed the business. But the enterprise, being a family business, with only 5.5 ha(13.5 acres) of vines in the Saint Emilion appellation and 2.3 ha(5.7 acres) in Bordeaux, was of a type which, in Richard's opinion, was at risk of being overcome by the larger vineyards. For that reason, a great deal of consideration was given before making the decision to continue the business. However, Richard had been involoved in the vineyard since 1982 and knew that it encompassed some excellent soils, most notably the gravelly soil at Bertinat. And so, in May 1985 on the 100th anniversary of the Dubois family's involvement in the area, Danielle and Richard elected to carry on the family tradition. The vineyard had an excellent infrastructure: On the basis of this infrastructure, and in accordance with Richard's own philosophy of wine-making, Danielle and Richard have a single aim: Maximum quality! 1992 - An important year |
