Great wine of bordeaux

chateau bertinat lartigue Wine and culture from the very begin of time, have been intimately linked. After all is not wine the blood of Christ? Poets inspired by wine abound, and in St. Emilion, Ausone, the roman Bordeau born poet (Burdigala in latin) has left his name to the greatest of our wines.

Wine is the occasion for friends to gather, the sacred fuse of any celebration, the sublimate point of any gastronomic meal, and the indispensable bond of conviviality. It must be hoped that there will fewer regulations, sometimes abusive, concerning this noble product, which must not become the anonymous product of some supermarket shelf.

If we should utter a cry, this exclamation would be to thank you. To thank you for daring to taste a non-standardized, non pasturized terroir product. In continuing to initiate your children and friends in the celebration of wine, you are contributing to maintaining the value of this nectar, the issue of our efforts, as a culture of exception.

Wine is the fruit of long hours of work and passion, and also of sufferance sometimes.

vignes bordeaux saint emilion It is the sufferance of vines who are too hot, too thirsty, but who out of this suffering will give the best of their fruit.

It is the sufferance of the winegrower and his collaborators who driven by passion no matter what the weather (rain, wind, cold, heat ) go out to direct and manage the vine and grapes.

The suffering may also be of the underhanded sort, in the form of hailstorms at a time when the bud is bursting with vigor. At this moment an entire year's crop may be lost.

But what happiness when everything succeeds.

chateau bertinat lartigue However above all else, in order to succeed the vine must give us great fruit. There are neither great wines nor great oenologists, nor great cellar masters nor great winegrowers without great fruit!!!

The secret of vinification is the art of mastering the plant's environment no matter the climatic conditions of the year so that the fruit is as noble as possible.

Then, and only under such conditions will the imagination and the pleasure of the winegrower, in tune to his different vintages, terroirs and different grape varieties, be able to find the ideal blend dignified of being nutured in stave oak barrels........
